Basically, I am looking for info on the recommended thickness of the
Goober nut
foundation and the grade of concrete. The home will be in Louisiana on

footings & are often happy to steer you in the right direction. you will
probably need some plans & permit to build. i don't like sealers on a
concrete floor because they wear off & need constant stripping &
re-sealing to keep them looking good. if you want a decent shine off the
shelf products like mop & glo are easy to maintain & inexpensive. there
are companies that grind & polish concrete floors. concrete densifiers &
hardeners are used to run the psi up to the point where the concrete will
take & hold a shine. because concrete has a tendency to crack the mix
design is very important. we use super plastisizers & water reducers in
the concrete. also pour the concrete as dry as you can & still do a good
job. if you see ur concrete crew adding more than a few gallons of water
to a truckload it is usually a mistake. more water means more shrinkage
which means more cracks. because concrete work is time sensitive, usually
a narrow window of workability, there is no time to train or figure it out
& still get a top quality job. i strongly recommend that you get some pros
to help you out. don't be afraid to ask to see some previous jobs before
you select ur contractor. anybody that knows what they are doing will have
some recent work to show you.

There are getting to be lots of popular concrete finishes these

days. Some are just stained, sealed, & waxed. Some of the newer ones are

There are companies that specialize in concrete finishes. I would go talk

to someone like that (with lots of experience), pick out a desired finish,

& get their specifications for the concrete mix. On the ground down
finishes, the size & color of the aggregate is important. And how much
fly ash that is substituted for cement may be important for the durability
of the finish. The thickness is likely going to four inches or
thereabouts. The strength between 3000 & 3500 psi. That translates into
about 5 sacks of cement per cubic yard. These things may not be as
important for the final appearance as the color of cement & the type of
aggregate or if you go with an integral color admixture.
